Livingston

Livingston is the ocean entry to Guatemala from the Caribbean. There is no land access to this village primarily occupied by the Garifuna people.

The trip to Livingston is worth as much (in my opinion) as the village itself. There are options of places to stop and visit that are not on the Collectivo's usual tour that are well worth seeing. One of my favorite people on the river is Jennifer who has the most amazing house and garden you have probably ever seen. She raises Tillapia and fresh water lobster as well as the Guatemalan version of the what I envision the Garden of Eden to be. If she is home it is well worth meeting her and possibly bringing her lunch. Finca Tatin, Ak' Tenement are other options as well as the option of ordering fresh Tapado at a restaurant at the mouth of the Golfette that can be ready on your return. There are also other worthy options of going straight to Livingston to stay for the night or move on from there. Finca Tatin has accomodations and an operation that will boggle your mind.
